I guess it's still marked as the standard address book and thus get 
re-created everytime you start Kontact. This can be changed in the "KDE 
Resources" settings in the KDE Control Center. KDE Resources can be 
found in the group KDE Components. Marking your new address book as 
standard address book will hopefully fix the problem.
