And that's the whole point of IMAP: Regardless from where you look at
your IMAP account (from home, from work, from an internet cafe, with
your mobile gadget, etc.) you always see the same.
If you want to archive everything then you have to download everything
from the IMAP account to some archive. FWIW, I use KMail's expiry
functionality to archive old messages (and to keep my account safely
below the quota).
