This problem frequently occurs when synchronising mixedmaildir folders, e.g. I
ran

qdbus org.freedesktop.Akonadi.Control /AgentManager
org.freedesktop.Akonadi.AgentManager.agentInstanceSynchronize
akonadi_mixedmaildir_resource_0

and kmail is going bananas. It also takes exorbitant amounts of time to do that
job - half an hour easily.
