I see more or less the same with cached Imap account, using KDE 3.5.9, kmail
1.9.9 on opensuse 10.3 i586. imap server is cyrus.

kmail is configured to only show subscribed folders. When the folder is renamed
then the subscription gets lost, and the folder does not show up anymore.
The renaming process works fine, as the folder with the new name is in the imap
server available, containing all the messages.
Opening the subscriptions, then the folder can be selected again.
However, on new mail checking, the folder does not show up. Sometimes it helps
to troubleshoot the imap cache from within kmail, refreshing the cache, and
rebuilding the index, but that does not work always.
Sometimes it is necessary, to create a new folder on a different way, then copy
the files from the renamed folder into the new folder, and then check mail with
kmail again. Then the new folder created in the other program appears in kmail
too.
