I was going to suggest this. Actually, not a port, but a new module.
The existing one is still useful.

Eh, yeah, I have been looking into this, and it may be possible, but
not very pleasant. The integration using today's interfaces is quite
ugly involving generating temp files and launching a headless blender
process potentially for each frame. Some more analysis is required. I
recommend against this as a SoC project.
