Could you try with MLT's command line player so that we can track  
down the issue ?
 From a terminal, do:

inigo my_clip.mpg

This will use the sdl consumer.

Then, try:

inigo my_clip.mpg -consumer sdl_preview

Let me know if both output are corrupted or only one or if everything  
is ok...
