Heh, I thought you liked the direct integration as opposed to the frontend-ing 
as in Kino!?

True, but it really is a good intermediate file when working with NTSC or PAL 
material as it is more compressed than lossless or uncompressed, the 
compression is fairly light, ffmpeg's DV encoder very good, and many tools 
work with DV.

Yes, only recommended if you are working with NTSC, PAL, or anamorphic 16:9 
variants thereof.

Not ideal, I agree, but the DV codec in ffmpeg is very good. Ah, so you are 
using a MPEG-2 source?
