So Avidemux2 IS capable to determine correct frame number of mpeg2 clip?
And ffmpeg functions which report a wrong (lower) number?

And once the number is known and forced to kdenlive/westley file (a job for Kdenlive) the output is correct having the same number of frames?

Dan, do you mind to talk to Avidemux2 guys for the method they use?
I can do it myself, but I guess you can do it in much "profound" way.
