There are currently very few people involved in Kdenlive and MLT development. 
We are doing our best to fix bugs. 

If jdd has the same issue, maybe he can try helping us tracking that bug.
This is probably an MLT issue. We need you to test your video files with MLT's 
command line video player inigo.

Try the following commands in a terminal:

inigo my_video.dv
inigo avformat:my_video.dv
inigo libdv:my_video.dv

And tell me what happens with each of these commands (does it play the file, 
does it only play the first minute, ...)
