I guess you have to talk to transcode guys about that.

What did you expect? Your input is 

 VIDEO:  [MJPG]  320x240  24bpp  15.000 fps  2274.7 kbps

you output is supposed to be 144000byte*25fps = 28125 kbps
so you can be happy if it was just a factor of 7. Actually that means that the 
ouput is no real DV (25 or 30 fps) but DV with 15fps.

at this point piave (and thus kdenlive) is not the right tool to cut AVI. 
The primary (and right now, the only) target is DV.

piave uses libdv to codec DV video. ffmpeg supports reading and now also 
writing of DV video and I might try to replace libdv by ffmpeg at some point. 
Maybe that makes it easier for somebody else to espand piaves capabilities to 
mpeg and other formats (mjpeg inyour case).
