Oh yes, I had this problem. I created a symlink to the resources directory in 
the piave folder e.g. create a symlink  

ln -s piave/resources piave/piave/resources

I think this is a symptom of it not finding the picture above. I think it is 
saying that Piave didn't create a video window.

I am a little puzzled myself - Rolf can you enlighten me if creating symlinks 
is the correct solution for the moment? 

All of these problems should go away as soon as Kdenlive can pass a render 
tree to Piave, however.

Yes, the kdenlive timeline is not yet hooked up to Piave. You should see a 
black area in the monitor if everything is working, and you will be able to 
seek the test clip by dragging the slider on the monitor back and forth. The 
buttons (play, rewind, etc.) aren't hooked up yet.
