Implementation of overlay keyboard/special keys

I'm trying to get an implementation of some kind of "overlay" keyboard up inspired by the the one found in Termux and JuiceSSH but it seems there has been some kind of implementation since there are some "special key" references in https://cgit.kde.org/kdeconnect-android.git/tree/src/org/kde/kdeconnect/Plugins/RemoteKeyboardPlugin/RemoteKeyboardPlugin.java. Is there already some implementation of special keys? How do I trigger them? Thanks a lot.
