KDE's rough edges... what are your experiences?

You mean 4.2 (the first 4.x release after the last 3.x release)

In the context of this thread, the desktop environment product of KDE, yes, 
the last minor release. Still releasing patch level as far as I know.

And, out of scope of this thread, as Duncan mentioned already, only applies to 
the desktop environment or workspace product.
