Sluggish computer, KMail hogging the CPU

FYI, kmail can also be configured to use a gmail pop account. I have it set up
that way, and I have several pop accounts on a private server, yet it's not
hogging my CPU at all, even with filters activated for virus scanning and spam.
I'm running kmail 4.7.3 on a laptop, BTW.
