kmail/kontact doesn't start

Yes, sometimes I see that, too. When it happens, there is still a 
/usr/bin/kontact process running, you can theck this with 'pgrep kontact'. I 
wait a little, in case there are still things happening with it, then I kill 
it (pkill kontact). After that, I can start it again without further 
trouble.
As you're using kmail instead of kontact, use pgrep kmail instead of pgrep 
kontact.
