Does kate have an auto-replace function, perhaps a plugin

Can kate do auto-replacement?  I don't mean auto-completion, but something
along the lines of bash aliasing.  If activated in the windows text editor I
used, pressing any word boundary key caused the editor to check the
immediately preceding word against its abbreviations list and replace any
such abbreviation with its expanded form.
