Cover switch does not work

Hi,

I upgraded my Kubuntu 9.10 yesterday to KDE 4.4.1 and I just discovered that 
"Cover switch" does not work. When I press <ALT>+<TAB>, the normal "2D" 
selector in the middle of the screen appears.

Other desktop effects such as the desktop cube etc do work. What I just noticed 
is that the "snow effect" also is not working ; at least I couldn't start it.

What can be the cause?`If you need logs, please let me know!
