Konqueror search field vanished with ugrade to KDE4

No need to go to such lengths; you could have just deleted it. 
Actually, best thing I advise after a distro upgrade if to "rm -rf 
~/.kde" entirely (after you back it up of course so you can copy back 
files you want to keep, like email and bookmarks and stuff.)
