Kicker keyboard focus: fixable?

I'm a relatively new user to KDE.  I enjoy the application launcher's
search field, but I find it maddening that I have to move the mouse to
give it focus when I use the keyboard to bring up the launcher.  Is
there a way to make it seize focus on coming up?
