backgrounds on dual head

I have a dual head set up and in KDE 3.5 I could display one 3200x1200 
image across both monitors.  That doesn't seem to work in KDE 4 and I don't 
know if I have something configured wrong or if it just isn't possible.  Is 
there a way to do that?  

I have split versions of the large images and I can display the left and 
right one on the correct monitors and get the same effect, but then there 
isn't anyway to rotate the background image and have the pictures stay 
synced up.  Is that something that will be available at some point?

I run Gentoo and have installed KDE 4.1.2 from portage.
