well, it can happen that linux and windows both on one machine don't work
...
I tried that long enough ... therefore using for 8 years only linux.
Is your BIOS up-to-date ???
if you install newest k3b, you should de-install old k3b-version before
that.
I have plextor without any trouble. should be the same with your soniac.
atapi is atapi. no matter what brandy-stuff you buy.
