Mounting a data DVD

I'm trying to access a file on a data DVD, but, in Dolphin, I see

An error occurred while accessing 'DPCS0808DVD', the system said:
mount: can't find /dev/hdb in /etc/fstab or/etc/mtab

ISTR reading that removable drives aren't mounted that way any more, but I 
can't remember where I read it, or what I can do about it.
