I presume that you don't really mean a Gnome panel, or you wouldn't be asking 
a kde list :-)

It sounds as though your plasma settings have become corrupt.  Depending on 
which distro yoiu are using, go to ~/.kde(or .kde4)/share/config/ and delete 
plasmarc and plasma-appletsrc.   They will be recreated when you log in 
again.
