How to make kopete play a sound when it pops up a bubble?

After a lot more playing with this, I still haven't been able to get it to 
behave as it should...  As far as I can tell, kopete seems to be ignoring 
the "Enable events for active chat windows" setting, at least when it comes 
to sounds relating to the event.

Has anybody else experienced this, or have any other solutions?
