The drag and drop method seems to be capable of creating either a symbolic
link or a .desktop file. The choice however, is not with the user but rather
depends on the targets URL.

When i open my home folder in konqueror with the home kio_slave (home:/) and
the drag and drop a folder to the desktop to create a link, it actually
creates a .desktop file link. OTOH when doing the same with the
unix '/home' path in konq, a symlink is created.

This seems to tell me that KDE fails to differentiate well between local and
remote filesystems. I am really looking forward to Simon Edwards's
alternative to the media:/ and system:/ kio-slaves as shown in
http://www.kdedevelopers.org/node/2231 to be the default.
