jpg issue

Hi,

On my system, jpg files seem not to be recognied as such anymore :(. I
for example don't get a thumbnail anymore and the applications which are
assigned to jpg in the control panel, don't show up when right clicking
a file... but gif i.e. seems to work as it's supposed to....
Why that? How can I solve that? Thank you!

My system:
Suse 9.3
KDE 3.5 updated via Yast.
