usb disk icon not showing at startup

Hello everyone,

I am using an external usb storage device (hard disk).
When KDE is started, as soon as I plug the usb device into the system,
everything works as expected : kde shows a desktop icon for my device,
and eventually asks if I want to open a folder with it.
Now, I am using that external usb storage device permanently. This means
that I shut down my workstation and boot it up with the device
connected. Now, once I log into KDE, the desktop icon for my external
disk doesn't show on the desktop. However, the "storage section" (don't
know how it's called, this is a french localization) of konqueror shows
the device and as soon as I select it, the device gets mounted and the
icon appears on the desktop.
If I log in (desktop icon not appearing) and then plug in a second usb
storage device, the new device appears on the desktop, as well as my
first usb storage device.

This may just be a kind of 'refresh' issue, but I'd like to know if
someone else ran accross this kind of behaviour.

btw, I'm running 'kde 3.5.3-0.4.fc5 Fedora-Core' on ... fc5
(obviously :p)

Thanks for reading so far,
