In order to have write permission to you hard drive you first need to become
a person allowed to do that, I assume that since you use kubuntu that you
were asked to create a user when you installed?

If so what has changed about that user.
It sounds like the permissions may be wrong on only your home directory,
though I am just guessing here. What is the out put of ls -l /home ?
