They are working on an extension for the main protocol to allow negotiating 
calls if I understood it correctly.
Might at some point be extended for video as well.

Another idea to investigate, additionally, would be Asterisk:
http://www.asteriskpbx.com/

With it you can have a central point between the "normal" telephone lines you 
might be using and your internal, probably software based, communication 
infrastructure.
