setting up auto-login

[Never you mind]

I'm running a desktop machine with one user so I'd like to use the 
convenience features, such as auto-login. When I fire up the box it 
tries to auto login but complains that it couldn't authenticate.

In control center --> login manager --> convenience tab I set enable 
auto-login and choose my user name. Persistent is checked. Preselect 
user is "Previous", focus password is checked.

How do I set this up?
