kmail problem

I have a folder in kmail (3.3.2) in which the messages are no longer displayed 
or even counted, yet there is a file for each message in 
~/.Mail/.<foldername>.directory/<subfolder1name>/cur/.  I can open the 
messages from within kmail, but I can't import the messages using the import 
function.  Other messages at the same directory level 
(~/.Mail/.<foldername>.directory/<subfolder2name> are unaffected
Any ideas on how to restore the hidden messages to their rightful folder?
