KDE 3.4 and kdm problem

Hi,

I have just upgraded to KDE 3.4 using the source code packages. It's 
quite an improvement from 3.2 which were Mandrake rpms.

My problem is KDM. When I change /etc/inittab to run level 5 for kdm to 
start, I get a list of every user in /etc/passwd-so that's everything 
with a UID, and the session type box is empty, so it refuses to log me 
in-any ideas?. I can still use non-graphical login fine, but I would 
like to get back to using kdm. KDE 3.4 installed to /usr/local/kde, qt 
to /usr/local/qt.

Thanks and I really am looking forward to KDE4 (even though it takes 
about 2 days to build it all-even with a 2.2 Ghz laptop)
