k3b without ide-scsi

Sound exactly like the problems I had recently. It may have nothing to 
do with ide-scsi, but with the permission of your device. Check the 
permissions of the appropriate device file in /dev/ and that you, as a 
user, has write access to it.

The better solution may be to run k3bsetup and tell it to use a group 
for writing and let your user account be a part of that group.
