You can search http://www.linuxcompatible.org/compatibility.html for
example to see whats listed. I've always used Epson Photo printers (875
at the mo), but many HPs are supported to and many many others do too.
Any REAL postscript printer with a network interface is going to work.
You can also take a look at http://www.linuxprinting.org/ and you should
read into CUPS.

Also take a look at you distributions web site for compatibility
listings. Many distros will automatically detect and configure parallel
and USB connected printers.

I don't think you'll have much look get the vendors to guarantee there
printers on Linux, as they don't write the drivers for them.
