living hell: open URLs in Opera in new page

So I'd like to open html links in KDE3 in new pages in Opera instead of
Konqueror.

The comman opera -newpage (url var) work fine from mail client Sylpheed and
xchat, but not in - for example- KDE newsticker.
I already tried:

-in kmenuedit command from     opera to opera -newpage       and in file
associations opera %u as the  command
-in kmenuedit command from     opera to opera -newpage %u       and in file
associations opera as the  command
-in kmenuedit command            opera      and in file associations opera
-newpage %u as the  command

none of these worked and I'm close to white-glowing rage.

Can somebody tell me how to do it properly?
