Probably, your ~/.kde contains something that KDE chokes on :-( You can rename
the ~/.kde to something else, and then try to start KDE and see if it works.
If it does, you can restore parts of the old ~/.kde directory, such as your
mails on so on.
This is not a good solution, I know. KDE really should be more robust with
stale configuration items.
