Upgrading from 3.3.0 to 3.3.1 seems to have fixed the issue here (Gentoo, 
AMD64, 2.6.9). So I guess whatever fix went in from 3.3.1->3.3.2 was not the 
saviour :-/

The trouble is to know whether it was a recompile (or rather relinking) or an 
upgrade that did the trick...
