KDE 3.2.2: start_launcher??

NO, it isn't fortunate.  You can only have your system setup to use one 
install of KDE at a time.  If you still have the environment variables 
and/or ld.so.conf setup to point to your 3.1 installation, then your 3.2.2 
installation will not work.
