Blank system tray icon

Hey guys,

Im having a slight problem with a blank system tray icon. It appears
sometimes when I log in and other times not. When I run a programlike
apollon after bootup, just for research, really ;-), the icon ends up to
the right of the system tray icon. This is fine except when I try to
close it, it causes X to crash (I think) and i get the gdm screen.

First of all, where is this blank system tray icon coming from and
second of all, how can I get rid of it?
