No Sound KDE

Now for that initial problem. What has happened to the startup sound for 
KDE?

It was there when I first installed, but since the floppy recovery of 
the /boot partition, dead silence.

So which file do I need to check, re-config or whatever?

I still have my previous installation on the [now] slave hard drive so 
can do comparisons if required.
