file movement

I want to move a file to another directory but when I do it responds that it 
cannot create the file named<?>. Now, I looked at the permissions of the 
directory of the file I want to and decided to make it 777 to make everything 
easy but it responded:

	'chmod: changing permissions of `sda6':
	'Read-only file system'

SO I assume it cannot be read-only. How do I change that?
