Using KMail Identities

I've configured several Identiies in KMail, and I've got two misunderstandings 
(or bugs).  

1) A is the default.  If I send a message as B, the next time I try to create 
a message, it will be from B instead of A (unless I change it).  Just what 
exactly does "default' mean?

2) I configured a folder to be "associated with a mailing list", and to have 
an idenitity associated with it.  Nothing I do seems to make this come as the 
"default" identity (like having pre-selected the folder).  How is this 
feature supposed to work?
