grid in the deskop

Hi

where can I change the grid-settings
to manupulate icon-arrangement on the
desktop?

And: as my panel is situated at the
bottom of the desktop, centered with
a length of 50%, I would like to place
icons in the very left and right corners
(at the level of the panel) which is not
possible... How can I achieve this?
