Keyboard problem with KDE 3.1.2

Hi!

I'm using Slackware 8.1 (KDE 3.0.1) for a while know and I decided 
yesterday to move to a new version of KDE.  I downloaded the tgz of the 
latest stable release (the contrib package for Slackware 8.1 that I 
found on ftp.us.kde.org).  After, I switched to init2, gone to the my 
download folder and I did:

upgradepkg *.tgz
installpkg *.tgz.

I switched to level 4, did a startx and...  That's working!  kdm start. 
  Great!  But, no keyboard!  My keyboard doesn't work!

What i missed?
