No fonts in kde 3.1, I can't read anything! And as for Konsole...

Thanks to KDE support I have managed to install KDEbase with the
additional calls to overcome my meinproc problems with

export KDEDIR='/opt/kde-3.1'
export KDEDIRS='/opt/kde-3.1'

before compiling.

I have added kdenetwork, kdeadmin and kdemultimedia functionality
since and installed and configured X11 fonts with freetype 1.3.1 and
ttmkfdir and before that reinstalled freetype 2.1.3 for peace of mind.

XF86Config is configured to understand truetype fonts.

Startx is encouraging, KDE-3.1 splash and the icons blink as it
configures, but I have no text on anything, the tip of the day the
menus, even the tool menus are little dashes. Things seem to work but
there is nothing to read, except for links to e-mail addresses and
graphics.

The fonts are miniscule, 1 point or less, impossible to read. How and
where do I boost the default font size for KDE from bash?

I figured this is the problem playing with the text editor. Instead of
the cursor jumping down the screen on a carriage return, it sneaked
down the more times you pressed the carriage return suggesting a
miniscule font setting.

I wondered about how slow the Konsole application is; going
full screen on a 1024x768 monitor takes a good 20 seconds to paint in
the black background!! This is because instead of 60 lines and 80
characters per line it is drawing a screen for hundreds of lines and
thousands of characters.

How do we boost the font size?

Regards to my readers!

Andrew
