installation of kda3.1

Hello,

currently I am using  suse 8.1 and kde 3.0.3 (I suppose) and I would
like to upgrade to 3.1.1a.. I downloaded mandatory packetages libs and
base etc and q but i can't install it. do I have do deinstall kde? (the
kde web site advises not to install severa kda parralel but only to
upgrade is not possible, isn't it) or only q? how do I deinstall q?
or is there somehwere on the web a site with more detailed description
for newbies?
