No font-antialiasing in self-compiled KDE 3.1

I compiled KDE 3.1 on a RH 8 system.
Unfortunately, I have no font antialising,
contrary to KDE 3.0.3 as provided by Redhat.

What am I forgetting? I think the problem is in 
my self-compiled Qt (3.1.1). But I have included 
support for Xft and Xrender in Qt.

What else is necessary? The config scripts did
not issue any warning about fonts.
