Kmail message log

Where does Kmail store its log of events?
When I download new mail it always reports "No new messages" in the end (I 
have many user identities) and I have to see which folders have unread mail. 
I would like to be able to mark messages as read in a filter, but still see a 
list of incoming mail and which folders they were filtered to.
