Anti-aliasing

I turned on anti-aliasing in the control-panel, but it isn't working 
yet (as made obvious by xmag). Is there a good checklist to enable 
anti-aliasing. So far, I've found
xdpyinfo | grep RENDER
which passes. Any other tests?

KDE 3.1.2
