Since you're using an Nvidia card, there are propietary drivers avaliable for 
X, as the X server Nv, so I've heard, is actually a dummy, as most distros 
aren't allowed to include the binaries in their distro. 

They are avaliable at the Nvidia site - www.nvidia.com
